Appendix B: Varanasi Tour Roster

Below is the roster of our tour group from Varanasi. We nicknamed all the men (besides our tour guide) after the 7 dwarves from Snow White and all the women after the 4 March sisters from Little Women. Muthu and I were the only tour members from America and the only tour members under the age of 40.

	Rahul	Rahul was our tour guide. His attire usually consists of a green polo, Adidas sweatpants, Nike shoes, gold earrings, and a knock-off diver’s watch. He has a tattoo of three stars and the letters R and Y on his left forearm. He smokes at least a pack of cigarettes per day. He calls everyone “sir” or “madam.” Speaks Hindi and English.
	Doc	Doc is a smart man and the only member of our group who spoke Hindi (the rest only spoke Tamil). Doc used this ability to hijack the trip itinerary to his own advantage. He is a member of the Late Gang, who consistently delayed the trip by being half an hour late to every rendezvous.
	Happy	Happy is a generally happy guy. Happy took a liking to me and always wanted to take selfies with me. He is a member of the Late Gang.
	Dopey	Dopey's biggest personality trait is his iPhone 13 which he frequently flaunts. He is a member of the Late Gang.
	Grumpy	Grumpy is not all that grumpy—he just looks like he is. He is a member of the Late Gang.
	Sneezy	Sneezy constantly wears a mask on his chin. He is also a college professor and a very nice man. He is married to Beth.
	Sleepy	We called him Sleepy because he slept on the bus on one of the first days. He loaned me a pen once. He is married to Amy.
	Bashful	Bashful is very old. He is married to Meg.
	Beth	Beth frequently wears a mask on her chin. She is also very nice. Married to Sneezy.
	Jo	Jo has a shaved head. She looks battle-hardened and does not smile very often.
	Amy	Amy has a back issue that was exacerbated by our inept van driver. She is married to Sleepy.
	Meg	Meg is very old. She is married to Bashful.
